My car got smashed up yesterday. Garrett took it to a cub scout meeting yesterday morning before church and parked on the road in front of a house in our neighborhood. When the meeting was nearly done one of our neighbors from a few blocks away came to the door and asked who was driving the gray Toyota, Camry. When Garrett got home I asked how the meeting went and he said fine and then he turned back and told me that the car got a bit scratched up. He told me what happened and I went on doing what I was doing. When I went out to go to church and saw the damage I my jaw dropped. Calling it a little scratched up is like calling a tornado a little wind storm. Here is a photo.
He did say that the rear view mirror was torn off, but the huge dents and the fact that the hub cap was destroyed was something he left out. The bumper and driver's side front door will have to be replaced. The back driver's side door may have to be replaced. Three of the four wheels are bent so they'll have to be replaced as will all the hubcaps. When it was hit it was pushed into the curb damaging all four of the hubcaps and most of the wheels.
I took it into a local repair shop today and the quote was about $5,500 in repairs and 2 - 3 weeks to get it done. Thankfully nobody was hurt, and our neighbor was honest and has helped get the ball rolling with their insurance. I'm also glad that I can drive it until it goes in (although it looks like I've been in a bumper car derby). I'll also get a rental car covered by their insurance. It's a real bummer for them though because he was driving his brother's jeep (which wasn't damaged except for a scratch on the bumper - really just a scratch). Since the accident goes with the vehicle his brother's insurance rates could be affected. I'm just grateful that they came to the door to let us know and that they have insurance and have been so nice to deal with on it.
Last year I was parked in the visitor's parking lot at SLCC while I was teaching. I came out to find that my car had been rammed into by a driver under the influence of drugs. This wasn't her first offense and she didn't have auto insurance. She tried to flee the scene, but bystanders called the police before she could get away. She damaged some other vehicles in the process of attempting to flee too. We ended up paying a $500 deductible and only got reimbursed for part of it. I didn't end up responding to the letter from her parole officer in time so the judge didn't order her to pay the rest. I was just glad to be done with it. Although in hindsight I think it would have been nice to get that $250. Sigh, oh well.
I just feel like I'm driving a car that turns on a magnet for accidents when it's parked. I'm glad nobody has gotten hurt, but it's getting ridiculous.
Going out and taking the photo of my car made me frustrated so I took some photos of my most recent blooms. The iris below is one I planted a year and a half ago and this is the first time it's bloomed. I'm loving it's beautiful pinkish purple ruffled petals. Isn't it gorgeous!
The photo below is of the West half of the front of my house with my flowers in bloom. I took that today too. If you can't tell I love irises! I have had lots of wonderful flowers this year. Each year I try to add several hundred new bulbs. When we moved in our yard was a mess! The lawn was dead until the dandelions covered it shortly after we moved in, and I do mean covered. It looked like a dandelion preserve. There were some perennial dianthus and chrysanthemums that I've kept, but everything else needed to go, but most of it was weeds. We took out the quaking aspen trees in our front yard. We had some problems with a quakie in our previous yard sending up shoots all over the yard and eventually knots that the mower would hit. I decided that we wouldn't be having them in our future yards to they were pulled out.
We planted the plum tree in the photo above last year. The year before we'd planted a plum in that spot, but it died in that bad winter so this one is a replacement. There is also a fir shrub behind it that the irises are covering. I want to plant some more trees in our yard this year. Especially in our back yard. I really enjoy working in my yard! I just have to learn not to over do it.

Your yard looks beautiful, I think you are very good at this. I love to work in my yard as well. Not a bad addiction I think... Private Face me your e-mail for my blog. I went private for a while I had a creeper make some comments about Cambrielle. Scared me a little. So I decided to try private for a few months.
